Massachusetts Environmental Police Dispatch
BOAT SMART
It is unlawful for a boat to operate at greater than headway speed (6 mph or less) within 150 feet of a swimmer, water skier, boat launch, or when the operator's vision is obscured in any way.
Law enforcement at Indian lake is provided by the Massachusetts Environmental Police in cooperation with the Worcester Police Department.
Please don't hesitate to contact the Worcester Police Department if you see illegal activities happening at the parks surrounding the lake and the MA Environmental Police in regards to reckless driving and improper use of boats or personal watercraft on the lake.
ON 8/10/2021, THE WORCESTER CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO PLACE A TEMPORARY EMERGENCY BAN ON PERSONAL WATERCRAFT (aka Jetskis/Seadoos) AT INDIAN LAKE. THIS WILL BE IN EFFECT UNTIL 9/2022.
Massachusetts is one of only 14 states that do not require boat or personal watercraft operators to attend boater education or pass a license exam. There is a bill on this topic which is currently in the Committee on House Ways and Means that will require all boaters and personal watercraft operators to pass a license exam. If you are in favor of boater education, please contact your local legislators and ask them to pass H.4229.
