Public Access and Recreation


Indian Lake in Worcester, Massachusetts, is home to 3 public recreation facilities owned by the City of Worcester.

Morgan Park

At Morgan's Landing, also known as Morgan Park, you can launch a boat, motorized or non-motorized. You can also enjoy the other amenities this water-focused park has to offer. Such amenities include picnic  tables, benches, tennis court, boat ramp, fishing dock and walking path along the shoreline. Morgan's Landing, you will find the only state boat ramp located in the city of Worcester. 

In August 2021, the Worcester City Council enacted a temporary ban on personal watercraft known most commonly as Jetskis or Seadoos, at Indian Lake which is effective until September 2022.

Morgan Park is located at 540 Grove Street in Worcester. 

Neighborhood residents participated in the development of a Master Plan for this facility which can be found here.

Shore Park

Located on Shore Drive, this park was had phase 1  renovations complete in spring 2018 which included a new bathhouse and improved stormwater management to protect the lake. This park features a large beach on the north end of Indian Lake, as well as picnic areas. 

The beach is typically open from early July through mid August, with lifeguards provided by the dedicated staff a at the Greendale YMCA.

Management of this facility is made possible due to a partnership with the Greendale YMCA and Bancroft School

Shore Park is located at 85 Shore Drive in Worcester.

Phase 2 improvements are anticipated to include more stormwater management improvements, relocating the park entrance and upgrading the parking lot. 

Indian Lake Beach

Indian Lake Beach is located on the eastern bank of Indian Lake. The small, approximately 1.6 acre park, is situated in an entirely residential neighborhood.

Indian Lake Beach is located at the end of Clason Road in Worcester. 

This facility is typically staffed with lifeguards from early July through mid August. While upgrades are desperately needed, the views, especially at sunset, are truly amazing. It is truly a hidden gem in the city.

At this time, funding is being sought for the master plan and construction will hopefully begin in early 2023.

BOAT SMART

It is unlawful for a boat to operate at greater than headway speed (6 mph or less) within 150 feet of a swimmer, water skier, boat launch, or when the operator's vision is obscured in any way.

Lake Safety

Law enforcement at Indian lake is provided by the Massachusetts Environmental Police in cooperation with the Worcester Police Department.

Please don't hesitate to contact the Worcester Police Department if you see illegal activities happening at the parks surrounding the lake and the MA Environmental Police in regards to reckless driving and improper use of boats or personal watercraft on the lake.


ON 8/10/2021, THE WORCESTER CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO PLACE A TEMPORARY EMERGENCY BAN ON PERSONAL WATERCRAFT (aka Jetskis/Seadoos) AT INDIAN LAKE. THIS WILL BE IN EFFECT UNTIL 9/2022.

Safe Boating

Massachusetts is one of only 14 states that do not require boat or personal watercraft operators to attend boater education or pass a license exam. There is a bill on this topic which is currently in the Committee on House Ways and Means that will require all boaters and personal watercraft operators to pass a license exam. If you are in favor of boater education, please contact your local legislators and ask them to pass H.4229.
